New year’s resolution: Be more weeaboo

I will not find this photo embarrassing.
That’s it. I want 2011 to be an extra-weeaboo year.
This year, I want to wear my yukata to Sakura Matsuri in the spring, film a mini-documentary at Otakon in the summer, attend a tea ceremony at the Japanese Embassy in the fall, and build Gundam models at the kotatsu with my boyfriend in the winter. I will do what makes me happy even if it is also strange.
That means no more hiding my hobbies. No more being afraid of what other people think. If it’s a problem for them, we wouldn’t have gotten along anyway. No more half-heartedly trying to explain that “weeaboo” doesn’t mean I don’t love America or that I say “desu” all the time.
The way America has taken the word “otaku” and made it something positive, I will do the same with “weeaboo.” It’s already started: one definition on Urban Dictionary for weeaboo is “anything you want it to be.” I know what I want it to be.
What will you do this year?

that’s the spirit
My goal right now is employment as well as starting my own photo/makeup business on the side. Easier said than done XD
@Nate, I read your tumblr post about it and I was really inspired. If you’re looking for creative work, I know a good agency.
Go for it!
I don’t make resolutions, but I always try to be a better person, as vague and generic as it sounds.
I have something planned (with content that matches yours a touch!) for my tumblr, which I will hopefully get to tomorrow. Fallout 3 swallowed me whole over vacation.
Got into Ouran High School Host Club this weekend- didn’t think I’d like it at first but I have to admit I do in spite of myself. And I finally finished Gurren Lagann, too. The End.
You, madam, are a WONDERFUL writer. Thanks for writing a lovely post, and Happy New Year’s!
We are going to need more Gundams! I support this resolution!
I also like your plans for this upcomming year!
@Lauren
An agency you say…I’m intrigued. You wouldn’t mind sending an email about this would you?
Wearing a yukata? NICE! Besides, to me being a weeaboo (and I won’t deny that I am one) means having a profoud love of the culture. Nothing wrong with wanting to make it a part of your daily life and fully support that.
weeaboos rule!!!!!
Good on u!
