- There’s New Journalism, there’s New New Journalism, and now there’s New Geeky Journalism. I wish I had gone to this New York Comic-Con panel about geek reporting and the positives of sharing the reporter’s own opinions in articles.
- I have a soft spot for journalist humor. In one succinct comic, Susie Cagle envisions the future of journalism if we’re lucky and if we’re not. You’ll Never Believe Number Six! /sarcasm
- Nick sent me this amazing New York Comic-Con montage video that captures all the energy of the event. Keep an eye out for Ladybaby!
- I can’t wait to go to Japan next spring! I’m reading tons about it: Fawning over fauna: A guide to Tokyo’s menagerie of animal cafes. How Japan Copied American Culture and Made it Better. Tokyo, Cocktail Capital of the World. Those second two links are recommendations from my Japanese 202 classmate, Henry, because if anyone hears me talk about my upcoming trip more than blog readers, it’s definitely my classmates.
- Also, as previously mentioned, I’m taking the JLPT, easiest level, in December. Now that I’ve told basically everyone, I really don’t want to fail and look like an idiot. The most helpful resources I’ve found so far: a free JLPT practice test, the complete list of N5 kanji, and this great Android app that offers timed drills that make studying kanji and vocabulary feel like a game.
- Apparently World Sake Day was this month and I missed it. Thanks to @AnimatedInk for recommending this introduction to sake especially for Otaku Links.
- I’ve been working on some longer features for Forbes lately which have included interviewing an actual celebrity, but I finally put something up for October: Cosplay Entrepreneur ‘YuffieBunny’: Sex Sells, But So Does Creativity.
- Also, Anime News Network fall season reviews are a thing now. This season I’m continuing with shounen blast from the past Ushio & Tora while picking up Attack on Titan Junior High and obviously Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans.
